Buran Theatre Company
was co-founded in 2005 at the University of Kansas by Adam R. Burnett and Alicia Gian-Maciuliene with the intent of producing
new work without charging students and the community admission, while working an environment sensitive to exploration
and creation. Buran has now produced in New York City, Kansas City, Lawrence, Albuquerque, and Vilnius Lithuania with
satellites in NYC, Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles, Lawrence, Kansas City, Albuquerque, and Vilnius - with the international
aim to produce new works by new voices for new audiences, while bridging the gap between spectator and actor
To this end, Buran typically creates work that is organically
ensemble based and community oriented in practice. We seek new audiences for a new structure that approaches the event of
performance as the possibility for inclusion, one that performs before and after entering the venue. Now in
its fifth year of producing Buran has premiered eleven original productions.
